Director of Development  – Full Time

Reports To: Executive Director

Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Director of Development / Chief Development Officer will generate fundraising income to meet or exceed budget goals through campaigns targeting foundations, corporations, civic groups, and individual donors within the community. Provide writing support for foundation and corporate grant requests and acknowledgment of donor gifts. Oversee special event fundraising. Generate a balance of funding streams to sustain the organization in the long term.

Salary Range: $70,000 – $80,000

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

  1. Senior Management
  2. Creates an environment that facilitates the achievement of the overall mission and goals of the organization.
  3. Lead the development of organizational resources to facilitate the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.
  4. Formulate an annual and long-term resource development plan.
  5. Support the organization’s mission and principles.
  6. Ensure and monitor adherence to policies and procedures.
  7. Meet or exceed annual performance measures.

 

Strategic Planning

  1. Contribute to the planning and implementation of the strategies regarding activities relating to donor solicitations and other Club fundraising efforts.
  2. Evaluate the overall effectiveness of the resource development functions and return on investment.
  3. Provide regular reports reflecting all activities.

Resource Development

  1. Attain annual financial support to meet or exceed annual budget needs:
  • Write grant proposals for foundation support;
  • Work with Executive Director to solicit corporations and civic groups for donations and other support.
  • Research, identify and solicit donor prospects (individuals, corporations, foundations, etc.)
  • Responsible for the cultivation and stewardship of donors
  • Plan and implement special fundraising events.

 

Resource Management

  1. Manage administrative and operational systems to:
  • Manage annual and capital campaigns to assure goals are met.
  • Track fundraising income, compile income status reports and variance reports.
  • Recognize contributions with acknowledgment letters within three days and with special recognition events.
  1. Ensure a productive working environment, providing staff support to Club leadership on fundraising issues. Represents staff at various committee meetings, assists in mailings, writes follow up letters and enters necessary data regarding Club donors.
  2. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required or as assigned.

 

Marketing and Public Relations

  1. Participate in activities to maintain good public relations for the organization, local Branch Clubs programs, services and activities.
  2. Supervise Special Events and Marketing Coordinator
  3. Participate in community outreach activities, including attending events and joining civic / community organizations on behalf of the organization.

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, contact with Executive Director to exchange information, seek and give assistance, consultation and direction. Maintains contact with financial staff, resource development committee, and support staff. Maintains verbal and written contact with volunteers and volunteer committees.

External: Maintain contact with community and corporate leaders, schools, parents and local residents to seek financial support and provide information regarding Club activities and needs.

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of two years’ work experience in a Boys or Girls Club or similar not-for-profit organization with an emphasis on fundraising, marketing, management, budgeting, community and public relations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles as they relate to fundraising issues.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 The majority of the work time is conducted in an office setting.  Limited travel is required.
